You will be doing creating 3-4 different maps of Nevada. To assist you in learning about mapping concepts as well as our great state, we will be combing mapping concepts and the geography of Nevada as we complete this project
Project #1 Political Map of Nevada
A Political Map represents counties, cities and towns. Often they are painted different colors so we can see them better. This map shows names and boundaries.
1. Identify the names of each county by matching the number with the county name
2. Mark and label with a letter, the major cities and towns in Nevada. Create a key with letters that correspond to the cities.
Project #2  Population Map of Nevada
Nevada is not a very populated state compared to its size. Create a map that has colors to represent the population of each county. Create a key to label what population each color stands for.
Project #3  Geographical Map of Nevada
Physical or Geographical Maps: A physical map focuses on the geography of the area and will often have shaded relief to show the mountains and valleys. Typical colors are blues, greens and browns. Many rivers, mountains and lake features are usually labeled.
1. Draw and color the major mountain ranges found in Nevada. Write a number next to each and in the key name the Mountain Rage and put what number it is on the map.
2. Draw and color the major lakes and rivers found in Nevada. Write a number next to each and in the key name the Mountain Rage and put what number it is on the map.
Project #4 Native American Tribes of Nevada Map
To pay respect for the ones who were here before us. Create a key that shows each tribal area and a color to match it.
Project #5 Optional, Extra Credit: Topographic Map of Nevada (salt-dough map) This will be done at home.
Topographic maps are a detailed record of a land area, giving geographic positions and elevations for both natural and man-made features. They show the shape of the land the mountains, valleys, and plains by means of brown contour lines (lines of equal elevation above sea level).
